2015-09-29 Watersprint and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Professor Muhammad Yunus, create a sustainable clean water solution in Bangladesh
Watersprint, a Swedish company developing intelligent water purification and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Professor Muhammad Yunus, will develop a sustainable clean water solution called Micro Production Centers as a pilot project in Bangladesh in the near future. Today a large section of the population in Bangladesh use arsenic contaminated water for drinking and cooking.
Watersprint has developed a system based on UV-LED technology to make it possible to run a Micro Production Center for water cleaning and disinfection via a solar panel, which also charges a battery for 24/7 usage. The solution is extremely energy efficient and has a very low cost. The center will be operated by a local entrepreneur.
“We want to combine the social business model with Watersprint’s unique technology to assure safe drinking water to village communities”, says Professor Muhammad Yunus.

Professor Muhammad Yunus, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for founding the Grameen Bank and inventing microcredit. He also invented the concept of the Social Business which enables access to technology to ordinary people and access to new services and solutions to solve social problems globally.

The Yunus Centre, in Dhaka, Bangladesh is a think tank for issues related to social business, working in the field of poverty alleviation and sustainability. It is aimed primarily at promoting and disseminating Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus’ philosophy, with a special focus on social business and is currently chaired by Professor Muhammad Yunus.
We are happy to announce that WIN has received funding from BSR Stars Innovation Express for a follow-up project to WIN Nordic for 2016. WIN (Sweden), Vannklyngen (Norway) and Water In Urban Areas (Denmark) have been granted funding from each respective country for collaboration around water innovation. Novago (Finland) and the Catalan Water Partnership (Spain) are also part of the project, but without budget.
We are looking forward to continue our fruitful Nordic collaboration! All partner meetings had Nordic contributions during 2015 and this will be the aim also for 2016. Business partnership between the different clusters will be encouraged. One aim for the project is also to connect test beds in different countries to facilitate product verification and market introduction.
A consortium with Chalmers University of Technology and WIN members DyeCoo, JOIN Business & Technology and IKEA won the highest award at the Climate KIC Ideation Day in Aarhus, Denmark, August 22. The project “Climate implications of water-free dyeing of biofibers” was awarded € 20,000 after a poster and a pitch were evaluated by the jury. This is a good example of a fruitful collaboration that can come out of the WIN network!
The WIN Water Innovation Network, through the EU project Neptune, distributes millions in grants to support innovations that develop technical solutions within water, agriculture and space. Six innovative companies have just recieved funding through Neptune. Companies that all can help in solving some of the world’s biggest challenges connected to water.
104 European SMEs and Entrepreneurs submitted applications under the NEPTUNE Blue Growth Accelerator Call in 2017. In total, close to 200 European companies have applied for Neptune in 2017.
The projects could be granted both financial support and business development support from e g WIN. We had several high-quality applications and eventually the following projects were selected for Neptune funding:
- DiaPure AB – CyloP-Smart filters for recover phosphorus from wastewater.
- 4ITAB and Vultus AB – Integrated coastal monitoring.
- FloCell AB – Large-scale optimisation of chemical precipitation in water and sewage plants on the international market.
- EPFF AB – Prevention of biofouling in marine and coastal heat exchangers.
- Watersprint AB – The future water recycling product for households combining two patented technologies.
The projects are granted totally 250 000 Euro divided between the five projects.

Moreover, the projects could also apply for coaching and mentoring services from WIN and other cluster members. In total, ten WIN project have been granted coaching from WIN.
The financing as well as the coaching and mentoring support will be one significant step to help these innovative companies to succeed – to everyone´s benefit.

The Neptune project has been a huge success in terms of number of applications and cross-border cooperations. There were certain key elements that made Neptune attractive for the entrepreneurs:
- The accelerator approach with a simplified process to submit, shortened application and a time to grant of less than 3 months;
- The cross-sectoral and cross-national dimensions, which allow SMEs from different sectors and countries to find complementarities in a joint project to develop innovative technologies, services and products;
- The great potential for innovation and economic growth of the Blue Economy;
- The possibility to finance prototype and demonstration which are, by far, the most requested types of support.

WIN innovation company Chromafora is one of the top 25 Nordic Cleantech start-ups! The third edition of the Nordic Cleantech Open competition saw a record breaking 107 cleantech companies applying. An international jury of more than 50 influential representatives from multinational companies and venture capital have been involved in selecting this year’s top 25 candidates, and Chromafora was one of the chosen companies.
WIN-bolaget EfficaxEnergy är utsedda till vinnare i Naturskyddsföreningens tävling ’Klimatmaxa Villorna’. Företaget tecknade i höstas en avsiktsförklaring med Nibe som nu tillverkar en batch av produkter för installation under våren 2015.
Solfångarsystem blir lönsamma från första dagen med SolarFlex-teknologin och den finansieringslösning som företaget erbjuder. Att man samtidigt gör miljön en tjänst gör systemet än mer attraktivt, säger VD Erik Andersson.
Lundaforskaren Ricardo Bernardo kom på hur solfångarna både kan bli enklare och billigare att installera. Det blev grunden till bolaget EfficaxEnergy som bildades 2011. Den nya lösningen gör att konsumenterna slipper köpa dyra solvärmetankar som dagens lösningar kräver.
Med den nya produkten SolarFlex kopplas solfångaren på taket enkelt till den befintliga varmvattenberedaren inomhus. Istället för att byta ut fastighetsägarens varmvattenberedare behövs endast en mindre kopplingslåda som kopplas till den befintliga beredaren. Det gör att både material- och installationskostnader kan minskas och totalinvesteringen minskar med ca 30 procent.
Teknologin är inte bara lönsam utan har också ungefär 10% högre verkningsgrad än dagens solvärmesystem, enligt mätningar på bl.a. Lunds Universitet. Just nu letar vi efter lämpliga referensobjekt att installera noll-serien på. Det som krävs är hus med fristående elektriska varmvattenberedare, sägerAndersson.
SolarFlex har uppmärksammats när EfficaxEnergy vann Venture Cups miljö-och energipris, samt i samband med att VD Erik Andersson blev utsedd till finalist i miljardären Niklas Zennströms miljöteknikstävling. Serieproduktion beräknas starta sent 2015 och visionen är att alla ska kunna installera och tjäna på solenergi.
The Swedish ozone generator supplier Primozone has won the public tender to supply the ozone installation for the expansion of the Langevatn drinking water treatment plant outside Stavanger, Norway. The installation, worth approximately 3 million Euros, is a very prestigious project and thus a recognition of Primozone as one of the important ozone technology providers in the world.
“This is a genuine breakthrough for us”, says Anders Schening, CEO at Primozone. “Winning the public tender for a large scale prestigious project like this is a true recognition. It proves that our technology has a place on the market and that we, although we are a small company, can challenge the established player thanks to our innovative technology and new way of implementing ozone solutions”.
Primozone was invited to bid for the public tender in competition with the largest ozone technology manufacturers on the market. The evaluation criteria for the public tender focused on cost and especially on total cost of ownership for the installation; criteria which fit well with the features of the Primozone ozone technology.
“When looking at operational costs our ozone generators have a clear advantage because of their low energy consumption”, says Mr Schening.” With our technology the energy consumption can be more than halved”. The designed ozone volume is 960 kg/day.
Langevatn drinking water treatment plant is expanded due to increased population and a wish to remove color, taste and odor in the water. This is done by adding ozone and biofiltation as treatment steps. These will also serve as an extra barrier, i.e an extra added treatment step that will prevent bacteria and other pathogens from entering the drinking water.
Ozone is an environmentally friendly water treatment technology that has been used for more than 100 years. Ozone is very oxidative and powerful gas that is used for disinfection, conditioning and reduction of hard to remove substances like pharmaceutical residue. Traditionally ozone generation has been associated with being a complicated technology with high maintenance and high energy consumption. Primozone is redefining the ozone technology standard by providing energy efficient ozone generators that are easy to operate and also produces ozone with a very high ozone concentration. The high ozone concentration enables for energy saving throughout the entire ozone water treatment system.
4IT AB har som partner till Consid tagit hem ett mångmiljonavtal med Transportstyrelsen.
Avtalet avser applikationsförvaltning av ett antal applikationer hos Transportstyrelsen och innefattar vidmakthållande, vidareutveckling, nyutveckling och utvecklingsnära förvaltning. I avtalet ingår även konsultstöd i form av specialistkompetens för applikationerna. Avtalet omfattar IT-lösningar inom Transportstyrelsens förvaltningsobjekt för Sjö och Luft, rikstäckande databas för trafikföreskrifter (RDT) samt Swedish Traffic Accident Data Acquisition (STRADA).
Uppdraget omfattar applikationer för en mängd av de områden som Transportstyrelsen är
verksamma inom. Consid ska under avtalstiden leverera tjänster såsom serviceledning,
användarstöd, fel och vidareutveckling. 4IT AB kommer att som underleverantör till Consid att främst fokusera på området visualisering och utvecklat GIS stöd till flera applikationer.
– För oss är det extra roligt att få vara partner till Consid och en bekräftelse på vår kunskap inom ett av våra kompetensområden, säger Hasan Özduman, VD för 4IT AB. Inte minst med tanke på att vi varit ledande leverantör av geografiskt baserat beslutsstöd till Malmö stad i många år.
Avtalet löper över 4 år med möjlighet till 2 års förlängning. Uppskattad volym för uppdraget är motsvarande 9-11 heltidsanställda. Consid uppskattar affären vara värd upp till 60 miljoner kronor.
